
Cougars To Compete In 40th Annual Schenkel Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's golf team will compete in the 40th edition of The Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern on March 15-17 at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga.
The 54-hole tournament began in 1971 and is one of the most prestigious tournaments in collegiate golf that has attracted the top teams and players around the country.
The par-72 course will play at a distance of 6,962 yards. Current PGA TOUR professional Justin Thomas led Alabama to consecutive Schenkel team titles in 2012 and 2013.
This year's field includes CofC, UAB, Army, ETSU, host Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kentucky, Lipscomb, Maryland, Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.
The Cougars will start junior Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.), sophomore Raphael Geissler (Karlsruhe, Germany), junior Christian Baliker (Greenville, S.C.), junior Hunter Dunagan (Augusta, Ga.) and junior Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.). Junior Jake Budde (Austin, Texas) will compete as an individual.
Last year, Charleston placed a respectable eighth on the team leaderboard with a 7-under par 857 behind GSU and Power 5 schools Vanderbilt, NC State, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Florida and Notre Dame.
First round tee times on Friday will begin at 8:30 a.m. (ET) off the No. 1 and No. 10 followed by 9 a.m. (ET) tee times on Saturday in the second round and 8:30 a.m. (ET) tee times on Sunday for the final round.
The Cougars will be paired with Minnesota and Virginia Tech in tomorrow's opening round and tee-off the No. 1 beginning at 9:15 a.m. (ET). Live tournament scoring will be available at: www.Golfstat.com
