WILMINGTON, N.C. --- The College of Charleston beach volleyball team finished its third consecutive perfect weekend with wins over Florida Gulf Coast and Morehead State on Sunday at UNCW's Dig and Dive Beach Bash to stay undefeated in the 2019 season.
With the two victories, College of Charleston moves to 12-0 on the season while Florida Gulf Coast and Morehead State fall to 6-5 and 6-3, respectively.
College of Charleston 4, Florida Gulf Coast 1
Charleston ran its season-opening win streak to 11 matches with a 4-1 win over Florida Gulf Coast in the morning session. Senior
Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and junior
Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) picked up their 11
th win with a 21-16, 21-12 victory at one's, and
Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) and
McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) ran their record to 11-0 with a 21-15, 19-21, 15-12 decision at two's.
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) and
Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) cruised to a 21-10, 21-11 win at four's, while
Taylor Foley (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and
Katja Ehlers (Raleigh, N.C.) posted a 21-14, 21-12 victory at five's.
Mandy Napierala (Rochester, N.Y.) and
Amani Dunston (Agoura, Calif.) fell at three's by scores of 21-9 and 21-15.
College of Charleston 5, Morehead State 0
The Cougars moved to 12-0 on the season with their ninth sweep of the campaign in a 5-0 win over Morehead State to conclude the weekend. Madison and Freed delivered a 21-14, 21-10 win at one's to continue their unblemished start, as Rhodes and Rachel replicated the feat with a 21-16, 21-12 decision at two's.
Dunston and Napierala outlasted Morehead State's No. 3 pairing in a 21-16, 18-21, 15-12 victory, as Manusky and Beckman posted a 21-6, 21-15 win at four's. Foley and Ehlers registered a 21-9, 21-17 victory at five's.
Charleston will return to the sand next weekend at the Georgia State Diggin' Duals in Atlanta, Ga. The Cougars will face Arizona State and University of Tampa on Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively, to start the weekend. An 8:00 a.m. matchup with UAB will begin the Cougars' day on Saturday before Charleston concludes the weekend with a 12:00 p.m. tilt against host Georgia State.
