HUGER, S.C. – Consistent rides led the College of Charleston equestrian team to a 10-1 win over Coastal Carolina in its first home duel horse show held at White Horses Boarding and Training Facility on Sunday.
In head-to-head competition, CofC scored a perfect score, 5-0, in Over Fences and 5-1 in Flat. Senior Sophia Meserve (Portsmouth, N.H.) was named the Most Outstanding Performer in Over Fences, while sophomore Cassidy Hyatt (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was Most Outstanding Performer in Flat.
"We had a fabulous day out at White Horses with the College of Charleston and Coastal Carolina equestrian teams," CofC Head Coach Natasha V. McCarthy said. "Both teams rode extremely well and all of our horses were superstars – Reggalo named Best Horse.
"Our team was very consistent in their riding. Scoring a perfect score in the Over Fences phase and earning an overall score of 10 points to win the head-to-head competition. We are really pleased with how the show went. We were grateful for the opportunity to share the riding facility and to also ride against a great team like Coastal Carolina this weekend."
Meserve, junior Molly Coyle (Davidsonville, Md.) and junior Samantha Bledsoe (St. Charles, Ill.) will all compete next at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone Finals on Saturday, March 30 at the Auburn University Equestrian Center in Auburn, Ala.
