
Cougars Win Szambecki TR, North Points #5

NORFOLK, Va. --- The College of Charleston sailing team picked up two regatta wins this weekend, including the program's second-ever victory at the prestigious Aaron Szambecki Team Race on Saturday and Sunday in Norfolk, Va.
Charleston delivered one of its best team race performances of the season at the Aaron Szambecki, finishing the weekend with an 18-3 record to beat out second-place Navy by two wins. After posting a 9-0 mark in round one, the Cougars went 8-1 in round two to build a four-race lead on Georgetown and Navy and clinch the regatta victory heading into round three. Jack Brown, Augie Dale, and Steven Leuck skippered for the Cougars with crews Katie Lounsbury, Hunter Skinner, Payton Alexander, Annabel Carrington, and Carter Cameron.
The Cougars collected their second win of the weekend with a dominating 33-point victory at the North Points #5 in Wilmington, N.C. on Saturday. Ryan Ratliffe and Adrianna Lee led the way for Charleston in B-Division, crossing the line first in all seven rotations to win the division by 23 points. Benn Smith and Laura Masterson won A-Division with 11 points to give the Cougars a total of 18 points in the regatta.
Charleston's women's team capped the weekend with a third-place finish at the Seahawk Women's Team Race in St. Mary's, Md., rebounding from a 1-4 mark in round one with back-to-back four-win rounds. The Cougars compiled a 9-6 record in the regatta to finish tied with Penn and one win behind first-place Navy. Nicole Simon, Marian Williams, and Elizabeth Mignon skippered with crews Clare Perry, Kiera O'Reardon, and Hannah Kinder.
The Cougars resume their competitive schedule on Saturday and Sunday, April 6 and 7 with four regattas: SAISA Team Race Championships on Saturday in Wilmington, N.C.; Emily Wick Women's in New London, Conn. on Saturday and Sunday; SAISA Coed Championships on Sunday in Wilmington, N.C.; and Spring Harbor Race on Sunday at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex.
