
Christian, Martin Star on Opening Day of CAA Track & Field Championships

CAA Day 1 Results
Elon, N.C. – Chloe Christian broke her own school record in the pole vault, and Jenny Martin scored in the javelin and stands second following the first four events of the heptathlon on the opening day of the CAA Track & Field Championships at Elon.
Christian finished in third place and earned six points for the Cougars by clearing the bar at 3.80m (12-5 ½) to eclipse her previous record of 3.65m set at the Rainbow Relays last month.
Martin picked up a couple points with her seventh-place finish in the javelin, posting a season-best mark of 40.11m (131-7). Nicole Lane just missed on a spot in the top eight, falling one shy with a mark of 37.59 (123-4).
Martin enjoyed an outstanding day in the heptathlon as she attempts to become a three-time All-CAA honoree in the event. She finished the day with 2,823 points, just 24 shy of leader Carlyn McGrath of Delaware, with the long jump, javelin and 800 remaining on Saturday.
Martin had heptathlon PRs in the shot put (10.33m, 33-10 ¾) and 200 (27.22) and topped the field in the shot put on Friday. She also had a PR of 1.59m (5-2 ½) in the high jump to move up two spots to sixth in school history. Finally, she posted a season-best time of 14.91 in the 100 hurdles to place second.
Cate Ambrose had the top day on the track for the Cougars with a season-best mark of 4:44.02 to qualify for the finals in the 1500. Maya Pringle did not advance in the 200 but lowered her previous season best with a time of 26.92.
Simone Harris topped three Cougars competing in the hammer with the second-longest throw of her career, recording a distance of 47.30m (155-2).
