CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston women's basketball head coach Robin Harmony announced the addition of three signees who are set to join the program this fall.
Ciara Moore, Taylor Williams and Nia Cavington signed National Letters of Intent to join the Cougars basketball family to join fall signee Ashley Daniels and complete the recruiting class of 2019.
"The incoming freshmen all have skillsets that match our style of play," Harmony said. "They all tenaciously pressure the ball full court and attack the basket offensively… They are high motor basketball players who also excel in the classroom and we can't wait to see them flourish on and off the court at Charleston."
Ciara 'CiCi' Moore | 5'8" | Guard | Fort Polk, La. | Pine Forest HS
Moore joins the Cougars after spending her senior year at Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville, N.C., also spending three years at Northwood Temple Academy from 2016-2018. A second-team all-league selection in the Patriot 4-A/3-A Conference, Moore averaged 16.3 points her senior year while also reaching 2,500 career points as she helped the Trojans to a 22-5 record that included a trip to the second round of the NCHSAA 4-A state playoffs. Moore is the daughter of Nakesia and Ronald Moore and plans to major in Communications at The College.
Coach Harmony on Moore – "Ciara is one of the most accomplished scorers in the class of 2019 nationally... Scoring more than 2,500 points in her high school career, she can score at all three levels excelling beyond the three-point arc... Ciara loves to get out in transition offensively and stretches opponents defense which fits right into what we want on the offensive end."
Nia Covington | 5'9" | Guard/Forward | Richmond, Va. | Cosby HS
Covington comes to the Lowcountry after spending her high school career at Cosby High School in Midlothiah, Va. A two-time first team all-state, two-time first team all-region and region 6B Player of the Year, Covington picked up two state championships (2016 & 2018) with the Titans while averaging 16.9 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game over her senior season. A second team and first team all-metro selection over her high school career, Covington is the daughter of Carol and Dr. Damian Covington and plans to major in Math at The College.
Coach Harmony on Covington – "Nia is a high energy kid that just loves to get after the ball on defense... She will excel pressuring the ball in our full court press… She has combo guard skills, being able to play the lead guard setting up offense or attacking the paint and has a championship pedigree after winning state titles in Virginia and it shows on the court."
Taylor Williams | 5'9" | Guard/Forward | Daytona Beach, Fla. | Father Lopez Catholic
Williams joins the Charleston basketball family from Father Lopez Catholic High School in Daytona Beach after being named a first team all-area and 7A player of the year for the Green Wave. Williams helped Father Lopez Catholic reach state final four and sweet 16 rounds over her career and finished her senior season averaging 15.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 5.2 steals per game. A two-sport athlete, Williams holds school records in 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay events on the track and was also named to all-area and all-state teams for her achievements. A daughter of Teleyn and Evans Smith, Williams will major in Art Management at The College.
Coach Harmony on Williams – "Taylor is a long guard that can play multiple positions… She was player of the year in her region because of her unique skill set... Taylor is as comfortable handling the ball as she is slashing to the basket and has the ability to defend four positions… We feel that we can pull her into any guard position and get the same positive results."
