CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston volleyball team will test its mettle against a demanding schedule in 2019 after advancing to the semifinal round of the National Volleyball Invitational Championship last season announced head coach Jason Kepner on Wednesday.

Charleston will take the court against three programs that made an appearance in the 2018 NCAA Tournament and will open the season against defending national championship Stanford on Aug. 30 at 7:00 p.m. in TD Arena. Michigan State and Duke will join the Cardinal in a strong field at the season-opening CofC Classic on Aug. 30 and 31. The Cougars will take on Michigan State on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 7:00 p.m.

"I am very excited about our 2019 schedule," said Kepner. "To open at home with Stanford, the defending national champions, and Michigan State is great for our program and will provide a high-level tournament for the volleyball community. We will definitely get a chance to be tested at home and on the road at Wyoming and Ohio before we start conference play."

The Cougars' second home tournament on Sept. 20 and 21 features a four-team field that includes Jacksonville State, New Orleans and Charleston Southern. Coach Kepner's squad will open the weekend with a 7:00 p.m. matchup against the Bucs on Friday, and will take on Jacksonville State and New Orleans at 12:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. respectively on Saturday.

Charleston's non-conference road slate will kick off with a crosstown trip to The Citadel on Sept. 2 before the Cougars travel to Laramie, Wyo. for the University of Wyoming's Uniwyo Invite on Sept. 6 and 7. The Cougars will face Northern Colorado and Wyoming on Friday and Buffalo on Saturday.

A trip to Athens, Ohio the following weekend for Ohio's tournament will conclude the Cougars' non-conference schedule away from the Lowcountry. The Maroon and White will take on Ohio and Virginia on Friday, Sept. 13 and UConn on Saturday, Sept. 14.

Charleston will begin its quest for the program's 16th conference championship with a road trip to James Madison and Delaware on Sept. 28 and 30 respectively. The Cougars' road slate in CAA play also includes treks to Hofstra (Oct. 11), Northeastern (Oct. 13), Towson (Oct. 20), William & Mary (Nov. 1), Elon (Nov. 3) and UNCW (Nov. 17).

The College's CAA home schedule includes matchups with Elon (Oct. 4), William & Mary (Oct. 6), UNCW (Oct. 22), James Madison (Oct. 25), Delaware (Oct. 27), Towson (Nov. 8), Northeastern for Senior Day (Nov. 9) and Hofstra (Nov. 11).
