Reserve-Championship Finish For Cougars at IHSA Upstate Schools Show

MILL SPRING, N.C. – Sophomore Kate Coffey (Westford, Mass.) led the College of Charleston equestrian team to a reserve-championship finish at the IHSA Upstate Schools Show held at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.

Coffey was high point rider at the show behind her blue-ribbon ride in the Open Flat class and third-place showing in the Open Fences class. She was one of six Cougars to earn blue ribbons on Saturday against competition from Wofford, Furman and Converse College, who were all co-hosts of the show.

Junior Beverly Davis (Concord, N.C.) turned in the best over fences ride the entire show in the Open Fences class, while senior Olivia Baldwin (Potomac, Md.) won the Intermediate Fences class. Junior Allyson Pace (Charlotte, N.C.) contributed to the team's finish with a first-place ride in Limit Fences.

Senior Alyson Bushey (Beaufort, S.C.) and junior Lauren Duffy (Alexandria, Va.) also took home blue ribbons in Novice Flat.

Two of the program's horses were also honored at the show. Lionel 48 was voted Horse of the Day, and another, Regalo, was runner-up for Horse of the Year.

Overall, the Cougars placed fourth in the region and qualified seven riders in nine events for the upcoming IHSA Regionals to be held on Saturday, March 7, at Lander University in Greenwood, S.C.
