CHARLESTON, S.C. – Postseason competition is up next for the College of Charleston equestrian team at IHSA Regionals hosted by Lander University on Saturday, March 7 in Greenwood, S.C.
In their last regular-season show, the Cougars placed fourth overall in the region and qualified seven riders in nine events.
Juniors Lauren Duffy (Alexandria, Va.) and Cassidy Hyatt (Colorado Springs, Colo.) qualified in the Novice Flat class, while junior Makenna Grierson (Laguna Beach, Calif.) and senior Gabrielle Bernier (Parkton, Md.) in Limit Flat.
Junior Beverly Davis (Concord, N.C.) is one of two Cougars to compete in two individual events this weekend – Intermediate Flat and Intermediate Fences. Sophomore Kate Coffey (Westford, Mass.) is the other in Open Flat and Open Fences. She is currently third overall in the region's Cacchione Cup standings.
"I am excited to return to regionals this year," CofC Head Coach Natasha V. McCarthy said. "This time with seven members of our team for nine individual events. Our riders are all very talented and have been practicing to win. We are hopeful for strong finishes and for all of them to move onto Zones Finals in two weeks."
Senior Molly Coyle (Davidsonville, Md.) will also compete in Intermediate Flat in hopes of qualifying for Zone Finals for the second year in a row.
