PEORIA, Ariz. – College of Charleston senior Victoria Huskey (Greenville, S.C.) led the College of Charleston women's golf team to a third-place finish at the Westbrook Invitational at the Westbrook Village Golf Club's Vistas Course.
The Cougars set a new school record for under par in a tournament (-17) behind first-place Mississippi State (-32) and runner-up Oklahoma (-31). It was also the program's second-lowest 54-hole total in school history (847) behind a school-record 841 en route to winning the Elon Invitational in the fall.
Huskey turned in her second Top-10 finish of the season with rounds of 68, 70 and 71 to tie for ninth overall in a 90-player field at 7-under par. It marked the eighth time of her career to place in the Top 10.
Junior Olivia Hamilton (Oakenshaw, England) tied for 17th shooting 4-under par with rounds of 69, 73 and 70, while junior Jodee Tindal (Rock Hill, S.C.) tied for 32nd (E) with a final-round 72.
"It was a great finish for the team," CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "I am very proud of their round today. Yesterday came easy, but today was a tough fight for a good score. They hung in all day and were rewarded with a third-place finish."
It was CofC's fourth Top-10 team finish this season beating several Power 5 schools in the field including Tennessee, Kansas State, Ohio State, Illinois, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Missouri, host Wisconsin, Iowa and Indiana.
The Cougars will have a quick turnaround this week as they play host to the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country – the 53-team Kiawah Island Classic – on March 1-3 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Osprey Point and Oak Point Courses on Kiawah Island, S.C.
