
Cougars Host Largest Collegiate Golf Tournament In The Country, 53-Team Kiawah Island Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the 2020 edition of the Kiawah Island Spring Classic hosted by the College of Charleston on March 1-3 has expanded from 48 teams to 53 in this year's field and will be played for the sixth time in its history at Osprey Point at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C.
Two courses are used for the three-day, 54-hole tournament including Oak Point. After 36 holes of play, the Top 26 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 27-53 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point.
The Cougars will field two teams and compete against Alabama State, Austin Peay, Bethune-Cookman, Boston University, Bucknell, Charleston Southern, Dayton, Delaware, Elon, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Florida Gulf Coast, Hampton, ¬High Point, Hofstra, Indiana State, IUPUI, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Lipscomb, Longwood, Merrimack College, Missouri State, Monmouth, Murray State, Navy, North Alabama, Oakland, Omaha, Oral Roberts, Presbyterian , Radford, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Samford, SCAD – Savannah, Saint Francis, Stetson, Tennessee Tech, Towson, The Citadel, UT Arlington, UNC Asheville, UNCG, USC Upstate, Western Carolina, William & Mary, Winthrop, Wofford and Youngstown State.
Fifteen additional players will compete in a separate individual tournament at Cougar Point.
Starting for the Cougars will be reigning Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golfer of the Week Victoria Huskey (Greenville, S.C.) along with teammates Olivia Hamilton (Oakenshaw, England), Jodee Tindal (Rock Hill, S.C.), Emily Dunlap (Greenville, S.C.) and Anna-Theresa Rottluff (Dusseldorf, Germany).
This past weekend, Charleston set a new school record shooting 17-under par and placing third overall at the Westbrook Invitational. Huskey placed in the Top 10 individually.
"We look forward to hosting the largest tournament in the country," CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "The team is coming off an outstanding performance last week. We must keep up our focus this week. If we do this, good things should happen this week."
Junior Chloe Currie (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada), senior Yuki Nakayama (Kawasaki, Japan), senior Savanah Goodman (Easley, S.C.), freshman Kirsty Brodie (Blairgowrie, Scotland) and junior Clarissa von Stosch (Kassel, Germany) will all compete for CofC's "B" team.
Sunday's first round will be a morning wave 11:00 a.m. (ET) shotgun start followed by an afternoon wave 11:15 a.m. (ET) shotgun start. The individual tournament will be tee times from 12:10-12:40 p.m. (ET). Monday's second round will be a morning wave 8:45 a.m. (ET) shotgun start followed by an afternoon wave 1:30 p.m. (ET) shotgun start. The individual tournament with tee times from 8:00-8:30 a.m. (ET).
Tuesday's final round will be an 8:45 a.m. (ET) shotgun start on both courses for the main tournament, while the individual tournament has set tee times between 8:00-8:50 a.m. (ET). Live tournament 9-hole scoring will be available at www.Golfstat.com
