Cougars Cap Strong Weekend With Victory at Bob Bavier Team Race

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- The College of Charleston sailing team swept the finals to claim victory at the Bob Bavier Team Race and added a pair of second-place showings at the ODU Women's and North Points #2 to cap a successful weekend on the water.
Charleston put itself in fantastic position through the first two rounds at the Bob Bavier Team Race on Saturday and Sunday at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex, dropping only two races to enter the top four round with a 16-2 mark – one win ahead of Yale. The Cougars then cruised to a 3-0 mark in the finals to claim the title by two wins over the Yale Bulldogs. Jack Brown, Steven Leuck, Alie Toppa and Will Whitmore skippered for the Cougars with Katie Lounsbury, Noelle Owen, Hunter Skinner, Oliver Parsons and Jack Sutton at crew.
The Cougars turned in a second-place performance at the ODU Women's on Saturday and Sunday in Norfolk, Va. finishing 10 points behind regatta champion St. Mary's. Nicole Simon skippered Charleston to 58 points in A-Division with Julia Jeffries crewing the first six races and Hannah Kinder on board for races seven through 10. Junior skipper Marian Williams accumulated 59 points in B-Division with Emily Essi crewing the opening six races and Roxanne Snyder on the gunwale for the remaining four.
Charleston finished three points behind first-place South Carolina at North Points #2 on Saturday in Columbia, S.C. Kaelin Stock skippered the Cougars to 19 points in B-Division alongside crew Emmi Triplett. Sophomore skipper Kiera O'Reardon and freshman crew Lily DiPietro finished third in A-Division with 27 points.
The Cougars return to the water next weekend for four regattas: the Harbor Cup Offshore in Los Angeles, Calif. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday; Charleston Coed on Saturday and Sunday at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex; Navy Spring Women's on Saturday and Sunday in Annapolis, Md.; and Rudkin Team Race on Saturday and Sunday in St. Petersburg, Fla.
