COLUMBIA, S.C. - The College of Charleston equestrian team wrapped up a season-opening doubleheader weekend in style, finishing as Champions on Sunday at the University of South Carolina IHSA Horse Show. The Cougars were Reserve Champion on Saturday before beating the field on Sunday.
Senior Kate Coffey was High Point Rider on Sunday as she continues to shine after becoming CofC's first IHSA Regional Cacchione Cup champion since 2015 last spring. Coffey earned a blue ribbon in the Open Fence competition and finished second in Open Flat on Sunday to nab the High Point Rider distinction. She also finished second in both the Open Flat and Open Fences on Saturday.
Coffey was one of four Cougars to win blue ribbons throughout the weekend. Freshman McLean Holmes made her CofC debut by winning the Limit Flat on Sunday. Sophomores Connelly Grant and Kate Zimmer won Saturday's Intermediate Fences and Limit Over Fences competitions, respectively.
