CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston Equestrian team hosted a world-class, two-day event over the weekend at the White Horses Boarding & Training Facility, the CofC IHSA Fall Classic. The Cougars highlighted the weekend of competition with several strong individual performances and punctuated it by earning High Point Team honors on Saturday.
"What a huge weekend with stellar riding," head coach Natasha McCarthy said. "Our athletes won many classes for their team and in their own individual divisions. Each member rode extremely consistent the entire weekend. I couldn't be prouder of this talented and hard-working team."
Sophomore Kate Zimmer was also High Point Rider on Saturday, the first day of competition. Zimmer won the Limit Fences class alongside Lindsey Johnson, and finished second in the Intermediate Flat en route to earning High Point Rider.
On Saturday, junior Emma Avent and sophomore Connelly Grant won the Intermediate Fences class as Avent qualified for Regionals. Avent added a sixth-place finish in the Intermediate Flat.
In the Open Fences competition on Day One, Kate Coffey and Kathryn McCarthy finished second and third respectively. McCarthy tacked on a fourth-place performance in the Open Flat as Caroline Berg secured second in that class.
