
Cougars Finish Second at SAISA Match Race on Loaded Weekend

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. --- The College of Charleston sailing team finished second at the SAISA Match Race Championships and turned in a pair of competitive performances at the Women's ACC Finals and the Nevins Trophy during a busy weekend on the water.
The Cougars finished the SAISA Match Race Championships in St. Petersburg, Fla. tied with Jacksonville with identical 4-1 records; Jacksonville claimed first-place and the automatic bid to the ICSA Match Race National Championships via tiebreaker. Sailing for the Couagrs were sophomore Axel Stordahl at skipper, senior main/tactics Pierce Ornstein, senior trimmer Jack Sutton and sophomore bow Chloe Hudgins.
At the Women's ACC Finals in Boston, Charleston placed seventh with 269 points from 16 rotations. Freshman Fredrikke Foss skippered the Cougars to 131 points in B-Division with a crew rotation of juniors Anna Sherry and Noelle Owen. Senior skipper Kiera O'Reardon partnered with sophomore Cara Samson and Sherry for 138 points in A-Division.
The Cougars concluded the weekend with a 13th-place performance at the Nevins Trophy in Kings Point, N.Y. with 357 points from 17 rotations. Sophomore Max Anker skippered Charleston to 137 points in A-Division with a crew rotation of sophomore Kalea Woodard and freshman Ryan Hexter. The Cougars accumulated 184 points in B-Division with junior Brandon Geller at skipper alongside crews junior Roxanne Snyder and sophomore Garrett Grenauer.
Charleston returns to the water next weekend with three regattas on the schedule. The Cougars will compete in the Coed ACC Finals on Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24 in Annapolis, Md. as well as the Yale Women's on Saturday and Sunday in Branford, Conn. A 2v2 with The Citadel in also scheduled for Saturday.
