The Cougars compete Feb. 5-6 in Statesboro
Statesboro, Ga. – The College of Charleston Equestrian program launches its spring season this weekend at the Georgia Southern Horse Show in Statesboro, Georgia. The two-day event runs Saturday, Feb. 5-Sunday, Feb. 6 at Evermore Farm.
The Cougars enter the spring campaign tied at the top of the Regional rankings with the University of South Carolina. CofC earned High Point Team honors on Day One of its home Fall Classic Show in November.
"We're excited for our season opener and to get back in the competition ring this weekend at GSU," head coach Natasha McCarthy said. "We're heading into this weekend tied for first place in the regional standings, so we're determined to ride strong and focused, and just lay it out there this weekend with hopes of pulling ahead."
Day One on Saturday includes newcomers Lily Borders and Maria Price competing in the Introductory Class and Natalie Juckett and Eleanore Fish in the Novice Class. Price is coming off a second-place performance in the Introductory Flat in the fall finale.
The trio of McLean Holmes, Hailey Pendl and Morgan Phippen are set to ride in the Limit Flat competition while Kate Zimmer and Lindsey Johnson are poised for the Limit Fences. Zimmer is also competing in the Intermediate Flat alongside Grace Roberts and Connelly Grant. Zimmer, a decorated sophomore from San Diego, Calif., earned High Point Rider distinction last time out at the CofC Fall Classic after claiming first in the Limit Fences class.
Lauren Katz and Claire Lane will represent CofC in the Intermediate Fences competition as Lane makes her season debut. Veteran senior Kate Coffey and freshman phenom Kathryn McCarthy round out the Cougars' lineup as both will ride in the Open Flat and Open Fence classes.
On Sunday, the only lineup changes for CofC include Emma Avent riding in Intermediate Flat and McLean Holmes adding the Limit Fences competition to her slate.
