
Cougars Fall to Georgia Southern, 85-65

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's basketball team (3-3, 0-0) was unable to overcome a slow offensive start in an 85-65 loss to Georgia Southern on Tuesday night. The loss drops the Cougars to a .500 record on the season, while the Eagles improved to a 6-2 mark.
First Half
- The shots were not falling in the first period for the Cougars, as CofC trailed 19-9 after the first quarter. It was the lowest-scoring first quarter of the season for the Cougars
- The Cougars were unable to cut into the Eagles' lead in the second quarter
- Georgia Southern would lead by as many as 20 points in the second quarter before utlimately carrying a 38-22 lead into the half
- Half of Charleston's first half points came from players off the bench
Second Half
- The Cougars showed fight early in the third quarter, ripping off a quick 8-2 run to cut Georgia Southern's lead to 40-30
- Unfortunately for CofC, the Eagles responded with an 11-2 spurt that stretched the lead back out to 51-32
- The Cougars were unable to significantly trim the lead in the period and trailed 63-48 entering the 4th period
- Georgia Southern would go on to close out the game in the 4th quarter to claim an 85-65 victory
Team Stats
- The difference in the game was in the shooting numbers. GSU shot 43 percent from the field and 40 percent from three, while Charleston shot just 29 percent and 17 percent, respectively
- The Eagles won the rebounding battle, 63-48
- Georgia Southern scored 46 of their 85 points in the painted area
Key Cougars
- CofC was led in scoring by Jenna Annecchiarico and Latrice Perkins, both of whom scored 13 points
- Peyton Martin pitched in 10 points and a season-high 14 rebounds
- Freshman Bria McClure scored a career-high nine points off the bench
- The Cougars will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 2 as the Cougars head up the road to face cross-town rival Charleston Southern. The game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and be streamed on ESPN+.
