Four Cougars Finish in Top 20 at Winter VertCross Invitational

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – Cate Ambrose led a quartet of four College of Charleston women in the top 20 at the High Point Winter VertCross Invitational on Friday at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex.
Ambrose finished 11th in a field of 52 runners with a 6K time of 22:46.48. Tess Masselink (23:14.45) and Kristen Cherry (23:22.78) were 17th and 18th, respectively, while Rhian Purves was 20th in 23:26.41.
Emily Dorony completed the scorers for the Cougars, taking 24th place in 23:48.73, as CofC finished fourth in the team standings. Amber Scott (23:56.59), Patience Hunt (25:07.55), Morgan Summey (25:16.30), Shannon Smith (25:38.23) and Isabel Muehleman (25:51.15) rounded out the Cougar runners.
Freshman Jackson Reid paced the CofC men in their first competition of the season, taking 24th place with an 8K time of 27:28.85, and Hammer Blair, a freshman from Daniel Island, crossed in 28:29.93. William McCann (28:41.30) and Lucas Davis (31:09.62) also completed the course for the Cougars.
Both teams are now off until Friday, March 5 when they compete in the CAA Championships in Winnabow, N.C.
