Box Score MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Freshman midfielder
Jordan Thompson netted her first career goal as the College of Charleston women's soccer team lost its home season opener to Clemson, 4-1, on Thursday night at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point.
Â
The Clemson native, playing in her first career game in a Cougar uniform, found the back of the net in the 81st minute. It was the Cougars' first home game since their regular-season Colonial Athletic Association finale against Towson on Oct. 27, 2019.
Â
The Tigers (7-4-0) outshot the Cougars (0-2-0), 14-4, as Maliah Morris and Caroline Conti each scored twice.
Â
"Tonight, we played well in stages of the game, but Clemson did a really nice job of controlling the rhythm overall," CofC Head Coach
Christian Michner said. "I thought we were solid through the first half and into portions of the second half. But, tired legs and tired minds led to poor decisions late in the game that cost us.
Â
"We are still in the early portion of our season and I'm excited to see how this group reacts to this result and what mentality they'll bring back with them on Sunday. We will make the necessary changes and expect a brighter performance in our next match against them."
Â
Charleston and Clemson will close out its two-game series with each other on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 11:00 a.m. (ET) at Ralph Lundy Field. Admission is free and live statistics will be available at:
