Smekrud Records Second Goal Of The Season In Loss To Tigers

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Junior midfielder Kacey Smekrud recorded her second goal of the season as College of Charleston dropped a 4-1 decision to Clemson on Sunday afternoon at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point.
It was the second meeting between the two Palmetto State schools in the course of four short days. The Cougars would strike first as Smekrud connected from outside of the box in the 6th minute.
The Tigers (8-4-0) would tie the game up, 1-1, as Caroline Conti scored in the 13th minute off the assist from teammate Maliah Morris.
Samantha Meredith found the back of the net in the 18th minute off a pass from Conti to give Clemson a 2-1 lead into halftime.
The Cougars (0-3-0) had four shots in the game, two in each half from Smekrud, Haley Mannetta and Caitlyn Gonzalez.
Up next, Charleston will host Coastal Carolina in a rescheduled game on Thursday, March 4 at 6 p.m. (ET) at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point. Both teams were originally scheduled to meet on Feb. 20. Admission is free to the public.
