CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's golf team hosts its final home tournament of the season with the eighth annual Briar's Creek Invitational to be held on March 15-16 at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek on Johns Island, S.C.
The par-72, private golf community and course designed by Rees Jones will play at 6,110 yards. Last year's tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19.
The Cougars are coming off a runner-up finish at the 41-team Kiawah Island Classic – the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country – hosted by CofC. They look to carry that momentum into play at Briar's Creek.
Two Top 25-ranked teams are in this year's 18-team field – No. 17 Maryland and No. 21 Miami (Fla.). Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State and UCF are also receiving votes in the latest WGCA Coaches Poll released on March 12.
In 2019, then No. 23-ranked Michigan State won the team title with a three-round score of 856 (-8) ahead of runner-up Indiana (E) by eight strokes. The Spartans turned in the fourth-lowest 54-hole team total in tournament history behind North Carolina (848) in 2018, Florida (849) in 2017 and Campbell (854) in 2018.
Allyson Geer-Park of Michigan State was the individual medalist shooting rounds of 67, 69 and 67 for a 13-under par 203. It was the lowest tournament total in tournament history surpassing Kelly Whaley of North Carolina (204) in 2018.

"This (course) is where we ended our season last year. Two days before the tourney, the remainder of our spring season was cancelled due to COVID-19. We are pleased, we are able to play this year. This will be a very competitive field with two in the Top 25 and multiple teams who are receiving votes. Our players wanted to play a tough schedule, so we have back-to-back tournaments this week. We will see how we fare against some top competition at both." – College of Charleston Head Coach Jamie Futrell
