UNCW Defense Thwarts Cougar Attack In Shutout

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW hung on for a 1-0 shutout of the College of Charleston women's soccer team in Colonial Athletic Association action on Saturday night at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Cougars (0-6-1, 0-1-1 CAA) had six scoring opportunities in the game, but couldn't capitalize on those chances as UNCW goalkeeper Blair Barefoot saved each attempt.
After a scoreless first half, the Seahawks (4-2-0, 2-0-0 CAA) struck first with a goal by Talia Parrous assisted by Madison Henry in the 49th minute.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Meredith Holton stopped three of UNCW's four shots on goal in the contest.
Sophomore forward Grace Powell and sophomore midfielder Natalie Sgro each had two of CofC's shots on target, while senior defender Leah Deutsch and junior midfielder Kacey Smekrud also aided in the Cougar attack.
Charleston will travel next to James Madison for a Sunday, March 28 meeting on the pitch at 1 p.m. (ET) in Harrisonburg, Va. The game will be broadcast on FloSports.
