
Luzy Lieger, Areyanna Scott Highlight Cougar Effort at Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Luzy Lieger moved up to second place in the outdoor pole vault, and three Cougars placed in the top seven in the 1500 to lead the College of Charleston track and field team's performance at the Gamecock Invitational.
Lieger cleared the bar at 3.76m (12 feet, 4 inches) to come within .04m of Chloe Christian's school mark. Lieger, the CofC indoor pole vault record holder, finished sixth in the event.
Rhian Purves cracked the record book in 10th place in the 1500 with a time of 4:45.89 which was good for fifth. She was followed by Cate Ambrose (4:45.96) and Kristen Cherry (4:50.48) in sixth and seventh, respectively, with Cherry and Emily Dorony (4:53.85) establishing new PRs.
Purves also had an eighth-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:22.13.
Areyanna Scott continued her outstanding freshman season with a throw of 42.16m (138-4) in the javelin, placing second and coming within .78m shy of the school record she set earlier this year.
In the sprints, season bests were turned in by Laurie Fogleman and Sophia Cucinotta in the 200 and 400. Fogleman had times of 27.43 in the 200 and 1:04.05 in the 400 while Cucinotta crossed in 30.56 an 1:12.34, respectively.
Jordan Dean had a season-best time in the 100 (13.01) as did Kaitlynn Bailey in the 200 (26.21).
The Cougars return to Columbia next Saturday to compete in the USC Open.
