
Lieger Leads Changes to School Record Book

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Luzy Lieger broke the school record in the pole vault, and three other College of Charleston athletes altered the record book to highlight the track and field team's performance at the USC Open.
Lieger cleared 3.90m (12 feet, 9 ½ inches), the second-highest mark in the CAA this season, to eclipse the record that was held by Chloe Christian. Lieger also holds the indoor pole vault record at 3.80m (12-5 ½). Christian tied for eighth on Saturday with a season-best 3.45m (11-3 ¾).
Cate Ambrose moved up one spot from fourth to third in the 1500 with a time of 4:38.03 to finish fifth on Saturday. Emily Dorony moved into the record book in eighth place in the 800 (2:20.15), and Kaitlynn Bailey took over the No. 10 spot in the 400 (59.77). Bailey also had a PR in the 100 in 12.87.
Kimbra Owens established a pair of PRs in the throwing events with marks of 37.56m (123-2) in the hammer and 38.20m (125-4) in the discus. Areyanna Scott took second in the javelin with a top throw of 41.80m (137-1), and Haley Dempsey was third at 35.65m (116-11).
Tess Masselink finished fifth in the 3000 and set an outdoor PR at that distance with a time of 10:14.41. Kristen Cherry had PRs in the 1500 (4.49.28) and 800 (2:24.26).
