INDIANAPOLIS – For the fourth time in program history, College of Charleston earned an at-large bid to the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship on Wednesday.
The Cougars will compete at the NCAA Louisville Regional to be held on May 10-12 at the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Ky.
CofC's impressive spring resume included three second-place tournament finishes – including runner-up at the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golf Championship on April 13 – and the Cougars capturing their biggest tournament win in program history against the nation's best at the Briar's Creek Invitational on March 16.
"We had some very impressive wins against some top teams this spring," Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "Obviously, the Briar's Creek win helped put us over the top."
The Cougars previously received an at-large bid in 2007, 2009 and 2010. This will be the team's eighth NCAA Regional appearance – all under Futrell, who ranks 13th all-time among active NCAA Division I head women's golf coaches in career victories (31).
"It is a great accomplishment for our team," Futrell said. "They did everything they were supposed to on-and-off the golf course this year. I couldn't be any happier for them."
Each of the four regional sites will include 18 teams and six individuals competing, with the Top 6 teams (24 teams total) and the low three individuals (12 individuals total) not on an advancing team from each regional site advancing to the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship on May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
