
Cougars Primed For Opening Round of NCAA Stillwater Regional

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Champion College of Charleston men's golf team is primed and ready to begin play in the opening round of the NCAA Stillwater Regional on Monday morning at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. Charleston and the rest of the field will play 36 holes on Monday with the final 18 holes scheduled for either Tuesday or Wednesday depending on weather.
The Cougars are the No. 13 seed in the Stillwater Regional after earning the CAA's automatic bid with a record-setting 23-stroke victory at the CAA Championship on April 27. Charleston combined for a 30-under par 834 at the CAA Championship – the lowest 54-hole team total in league history – while claiming the program's fifth CAA title.
Freshman Zach Reuland (Rock Hill, S.C.) fired a 13-under par 203 with rounds of 68, 68 and 67 to become the program's first freshman since Josh Lorenzetti (2013 Southern Conference individual champion) to win medalist honors. He finished the championship five shots clear of teammate Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.) and is the fifth all-time CAA individual champion in school history. Graduate senior Christian Baliker (Greenville, S.C.) finished fourth overall at four-under par.
The Cougars are making their eighth regional appearance in program history and first since the 2017 season in Coach Krywulycz's second season at the helm. Karsten Creek Golf Club holds special significance for Charleston golf as the course at which the Cougars' earned an historic berth in the 2001 NCAA National Championship.
Three of the six regional sites will have 13 teams and 10 individuals competing, while three will have 14 teams and five individuals. The Top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team from each regional site (six individuals total) will advance to the national championship to be held on May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
