CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston women's golf squad launched its 2021-22 campaign with 36 holes of the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club on Monday. The tournament consists of 17 teams all tabbed No. 104 or better, including six in the Golfweek Top 25.
The Cougars got off to a slow start in the opening round but battled back to post a solid 2-over par 290 second round as a squad.
Senior Jodee Tindal paced the Cougars through 36 holes of action. The Rock Hill, S.C., native carded a 1-under par 71 in the second round– her 26th career round of par or better – to claw back from a 3-over 75 in the opening round. Tindal nabbed five birdies and 24 pars in 36 holes, skyrocketing up the leaderboard 17 spots during round two.
Freshman Emma Schimpf made her collegiate debut in style, firing a 1-over par 73 in two consecutive rounds participating as an individual. She also sits at T-35 through 36 holes. Sophomore Emily Dunlap, senior Kirsty Brodie and freshman Mary Kathryn Talledo all showed resolve in responding to tough opening rounds. Brodie and Talledo carded 1-over 73s, respectively, and Dunlap birded 18 to finish at even par in the second round.
CofC returns to Yeamans Hall Club tomorrow morning for a final 18 holes of play. The Cougars tee off at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start.
"It was a disaster this morning," head coach Jamie Futrell said. "We were way better than we played, but it was a good comeback, especially later in round two."
