
Cougars Claim Victory at Intercollegiate Offshore

LARCHMONT, N.Y. --- The College of Charleston offshore sailing team made history over the weekend sending its first-ever all-female crew to the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta at the Larchmont Yacht Club – and emerging from the weekend with a six-point victory.
Charleston won the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta for the first time since 2018 with 15 points from seven races. The Cougars finished lower than second only twice and sailed to a victory in the regatta's second race. Caroline Williams drove for the Cougars with Kate Schmiege at main, Hadley Walsh at secondary, Megan Fetterley at primary, Emmi Triplett at pit, Megan Waller at mast and Julianna Corso at bow.
The Cougars' dinghy team put together a successful weekend as well qualifying for the Open ACC Championship with an eighth-place finish at the Open ACC Semifinals on Saturday and Sunday in St. Mary's, Md. Charleston finished the regatta with 272 points from 16 rotations beating out ninth-place Brown by nine points.
Freshman skipper Noah Zittrer and senior crew Noelle Owen sailed to a seventh-place finish in A-Division with 133 points. The duo finished among the top-five in five rotations including a win in race 10. In B-Division, freshman Benjamin Dufour and junior Lucy Klempen placed 10th with a total of 139 points including two victories in races one and four. They finished the regatta with a total of five top-five performances.
Charleston returns to the water on Saturday, October 15 when the women's team travels to King's Point, N.Y. for the two-day Women's Atlantic Coast Championship.
