
Cougars Place Eighth at Truxtun Umsted

ANNAPOLIS, Md. --- The College of Charleston sailing team sailed to an eighth-place finish at the Truxtun Umsted Fleet Race on Saturday and Sunday and finished 14th at the Women's Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championship in King's Point, N.Y.
Charleston finished with 152 points from 10 rotations at the Truxtun Umsted in Annapolis, Md. placing eighth in both A- and B-Divisions. Max Anker and Garrett Grenauer accumulated 80 points in A-Division with a high-finish of third in the regatta's opening race. Lawson Levine and Anna Sherry turned in a trio of top-five performances and finished the weekend with 72 points in B-Division.
The Cougars battled shifting conditions and stiff competition at the Women's Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championship on Saturday and Sunday in King's Point, N.Y. finishing the regatta in 14th-place with a two-day total of 195 points from nine rotations.
Grace Squires (races one through eight) and Emily Alfortish (race nine) skippered the Cougars to 69 points and an eighth-place finish in B-Division alongside junior crew Chloe Hudgins. Squires and Hudgins turned in a trio of top-five finishes while Alfortish and Hudgins capped the day with a four-place performance in race nine.
Sophomore skipper Emma Tallman, alongside a rotation of senior Roxy Snyder and junior Rowan Schanley, finished the regatta with 126 points in A-Division. Tallman and Snyder placed ninth in race four and fourth in race nine.
The Cougars return to the water on Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23 with two regattas on the schedule. Charleston will travel to Branford, Conn. for the Yale Women's and New London, Conn. for the Open Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championship.
