Purves, Blair Lead Cougars at CAA Championships

NEWARK, DEL. – Rhian Purves finished 32nd and Hammer Blair was 52nd to lead the Cougars at the CAA Cross Country Championships on Friday at the White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Del.
Purves was the top finisher for the Charleston women for the first time this season, covering the 6K distance in 22:57.20. Blair paced the men for the third straight meet with a time of 27:09.20 in the 8K race.
Two other Cougar women were in the top 50 to help Charleston finish seventh of 12 teams. Hannah Wise was 41st (23:13.30) and Sophia Brown took 46th (23:22.40) in a field of 101 runners. Also scoring were Shannon Smith (56th, 23:41.70) and Cayden Crismon (62nd, 23:58.80).
Jack Wedge finished close behind Blair with a mark of 27:18.70 to finish 56th. Rounding out the scorers for the men were Dylan McTigue (63rd, 28:11.30), Jackson Reid (64th, 28:25.40) and Nik Pettinga (65th, 28:25.60). Charleston took seventh of 10 teams.
Also competing for the women were Emily Dorony (24:01.10), Allie Pujol (25:31.00) and Grace McGrew (26:57.70). The other men in the meet were Tucker Green (28:57.30), Brock Davee (29:01.40) and Joshua Keifer (31:48.20).
Both teams conclude the 2022 season in two weeks at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky.
