Cougars Set to Compete for Pair of Championships

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston sailing team will compete for a pair of national championships this weekend at the ICSA Men's Singlehanded National Championship in Norfolk, Va. and the Kennedy Cup, the unofficial keelboat national championship, in Annapolis, Md.

Freshman Benjamin Dufour will be the lone Cougar competing for the program's eighth ICSA Men's Singlehanded National Championship on Saturday and Sunday in Norfolk, Va. Dufour qualified for the national championship after finishing second at the SAISA Open Singlehanded Championship on Sept. 18.

Sims Whalen will drive for the Cougars on Saturday and Sunday in Annapolis, Md. as Charleston competes for its seventh Kennedy Cup title and its first since the 2019 campaign. Megan Fetterley and Julianna Corso are slated to split time at primary trim with Sean Groskoph at main, Braden Johnson at secondary trim, Kate Schmiege at pit, Sam Rosenbaum at squirrel, Evan Chenard at mast and Caroline Williams at bow. Braeden Bonmmaraju is also making the trip as an alternate crewmember.
