
Cougars Open Spring Season With Victory at SCOR

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston offshore sailing team cruised to a five-point win at the Southern Collegiate Offshore Regatta over the weekend with Soul taking the victory and Illyria placing third with 11 points.
Soul, with Caroline Williams at driver, won the first three races of the regatta to all but clinch the regatta heading into the fourth race. Williams was joined on Soul by Burke Anvari at main, Julianna Corso at primary, Braden Johnson at secondary, Kate Schmiege at pit, Sean Groskoph at squirrel, Evan Chenard at mast and Cade Morris at bow.
Illyria, driven by Emily Potter, placed third with 11 points including a pair of second-place finishes in races one and three. Joining Potter on Illyria were Skye Ehrhart at main, John McCarthy at primary, Maggie Wilcox at secondary, Hadley Walsh at pit, Oliver Geraghty at squirrel, Nick Dunphey at mast and Connor Marion at bow.
The Cougars will open the 2022 spring dinghy season on Saturday, February 19 with two regattas on the schedule. Charleston's women's team will travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. for the USF Women's Team Race on Saturday and Sunday while the coed team will be in New Orleans, La. for the Nelson Roltsch Team Race on Saturday and Sunday.
