CofC competes at the doubleheader from Feb. 19-20
GREENWOOD, S.C. - The College of Charleston Equestrian program is set to travel to Greenwood, S.C. for the Lander University Horse Show this weekend. The two-day event runs Saturday, Feb. 19-Sunday, Feb. 20.
The team is entering Lander's host show after capturing High Point Team Honors on both days at the spring season-opening GSU Horse Show on Feb. 5-6. In six competition days during the 2021-22 campaign, the Cougars have captured High Point Team recognition four times. That has CofC positioned squarely atop to the Regional Standings heading to this weekend's Show.
"We are looking forward to competing in this weekend's doubleheader at Lander University," head coach Natasha V. McCarthy said. "The team continues to look strong and are committed to keeping up the laser focus and fierce riding all in hopes of maintaining our Regional First-Place lead."
Senior Kate Coffey and freshman Kathryn McCarthy will compete in the Open Flat and Open Fences on both Saturday and Sunday again this weekend. At the GSU Horse Show on Feb. 5, Coffey secured High Point Rider honors.
Lily Borders will compete in the Introductory Class on Saturday, hoping for her second win of the spring season. Amalie Ball, in her spring season debut, will compete in the Novice Class on Day One alongside Eleanore Fish and Morgan Hazeltine. Additionally, Lauren Katz, Morgan Phippen, and Hailey Pendl will ride in the Limit Flat with McLean Holmes and Lindsey Johnson competing in the Limit Fences.
The trio of Emma Avent, Kate Zimmer, and Connelly Grant are set to ride in the Intermediate Flat on Saturday. Grant earned first place at the GSU Horse Show. The Saturday lineup is rounded off with Claire Lane and Caroline Berg representing CofC in Intermediate Fences.
The only changes to Sunday's lineup feature Grace Roberts competing in Zimmer's spot in the Intermediate Flat, Leah Hirsch entering the fray in the Limit Fences and Tita Curtin and Lindsey Johnson joining Phippen and Pendl in the Limit Flat.
