Sunday will also feature Senior Day honoring the graduating class of Cougars
The College of Charleston Equestrian is poised for a big weekend at its home facility, the White Horses Boarding and Training Facility. CofC hosts its Home Spring Show on Saturday seeking a team Regional Championship before Sunday's Zone 5 Region 3 Finals. Sunday will also feature Senior Day as the Cougars honor the decorated senior class after the event.
"We're so excited to host the final show of our regular season on our home turf," head coach Natasha V. McCarthy said. "In addition, we welcome all regional riders for the Regional Championships and Senior Day on Sunday. I am confident our riders are prepared. We just can't wait to get the weekend started."
In Saturday's regular season team finale, Lily Borders and Maria Price are set to compete in the Introductory Class with Morgan Hazeltine and Amalie Ball riding in the Novice Class. Joining them will be a trio of Cougars in the Limit Flat including Morgan Phippen, Tita Curtin and Lindsey Johnson. McLean Holmes and Michaela Califano are also riding in the Limit Fences competition on Saturday.
Senior Kate Coffey and freshman Kathryn McCarthy look to continue stellar seasons as they compete in both the Open Flat and Open Fences events. Rounding out the Cougars' competitors on Saturday are Claire Lane and Caroline Berg in the Intermediate Fences and Connelly Grant, Emma Avent and Grace Roberts in the Intermediate Flat class.
The Cougars are hunting their 30th IHSA Region Championship as a team on Saturday.
Sunday features a packed day with Zone 5 Region 3 finals as individual riders look to advance to the Zone 5 Finals. Riders must place first or second in their respective classes to qualify. CofC has a host of riders competing in the Region 3 finals including Coffey and McCarthy in the Open Flat. Coffey is the reigning back-to-back Open Flat regional champion and she's also set to ride in the Open Fences.
Junior captain Emma Avent is set to compete in the Intermediate Fences alongside Connelly Grant. In the Limit Flat, Lauren Katz and Hailey Pendl have qualified and will compete on Sunday. Additionally, Eleanore Fish and Morgan Hazeltine are competing in the Novice Flat at the Regional Finals. All six of those Cougars are riding in the Regional Finals for the first time in their careers. More CofC standouts could qualify to compete on Sunday depending on Saturday's results.
CofC will also have a Senior Flat championship Sunday to highlight the graduating class of Cougars that includes Coffey, Fish, Hazeltine, Claire Thalhimer, Winter Hein, Meredith Musman and Kendra DeGraff.
