SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. – The College of Charleston Men's Golf team tees off the 2022 NCAA National Championships on Friday morning in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Cougars are competing at the famed Grayhawk Golf Club as the final 30 teams remaining in Division I descend on the Par-70, 7,289-yard Raptor Course.
CofC is making its second all-time appearance in program history at the NCAA National Championships and its first since 2001. Head coach Mitch Krywulycz, the 2022 CAA Coach of the Year, and his team advanced to the finals with a historic fifth-place finish at the Palm Beach Gardens NCAA Regional.
The Cougars launch action at Grayhawk on Friday morning with a 10 a.m. ET/8 a.m. MT tee time. CofC is teeing off from the 10th hole on Friday alongside Utah and Georgia Southern.
NCAA Championships play consists of three days of stroke play from Friday, May 27 to Sunday, May 29 (54 holes). After that, the top 15 teams on the leaderboard and the top nine individuals not an advancing team will be determined. That is followed by a final day of 18 holes of stroke play on Monday, May 30, when the individual NCAA champion will be crowned and the top eight teams advancing to match play will be determined. The team national champion is determined via match play with quarterfinals and semifinals on Tuesday, May 31, and finals on Wednesday, June 1.
Charleston's lineup at the National Championships includes the same five Cougars who took the course in Palm Beach, spearheaded by CAA Golfer of the Year freshman Kieron van Wyk. The South Africa native heads into the finals after a T-4 finish at the NCAA Regional and an individual CAA Championship. He'll be followed in the lineup by freshmen Nevill Ruiter, who is ranked No. 72 nationally on Golfstat and has eight Top-25 finishes already in 2021-22 after placing 10th at the NCAA Regional.
In the third, fourth and fifth slots in CofC's lineup are Zach Reuland, Jack Parrott and Ty Sullivan. Reuland was named to the All-CAA First Team after a strong sophomore season while Parrott is coming off a crucial T-42 finish at the NCAA Regional. Sullivan has competed in 13 rounds this season and posted a key second-round 76 at the NCAA Regional to help CofC advance. Freshman Tim Bertenbreiter traveled to Arizona as an alternate.
