Sophia Brown, Jack Wedge Pace Cougars at Buccaneer Open

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Sophia Brown finished third in the women's 4K race, and Jack Wedge took fifth in the men's 6K to lead the College of Charleston cross country teams at the Buccaneer Open on Friday at Charleston Southern.
Brown led a group of five Cougars who finished in the Top 10 with a time of 15:00.4. It is the first time in her career that the sophomore has been at the top of the pack among Charleston runners. Wedge, who led the men in five races last season, posted a time of 19:46.6.
Two women making their debut for the Cougars also scored. Hannah Wise, a transfer from Georgia Southern, was seventh (15:42.9), and freshman Cayden Crismon was ninth (15:50.0). Also scoring for Charleston were Shannon Smith (eighth, 15:45.1) and Rhian Purves (10th, 15:59.4).
Joining Wedge as scorers for the men were Hammer Blair (18th, 20:56.9), Tucker Green (21st, 21:21.7), Joshua Keifer (26th, 22:14.2) and Jackson Reid (27th, 22:25.1).
The Cougar women had a total of 33 points, just one behind host CSU for the team title. The men took third place with 65 points.
Charleston is back in action on September 16 at the Firetower Project hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, N.C.
