
Charleston Sailing Sweeps Oyster Bowl Regattas

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- College of Charleston sailing took home first place in both the Open and Women's Oyster Bowl regattas over the weekend in Maryland with the women claiming a dominant 163-point victory.
Skippers Grace Squires and Emily Alfortish, alongside crew members Clara Murphy, Fredrikke Foss, Marina Dryer and Noelle Owen, posted the two lowest scores in A and B Division – totaling 138 points. Squires, Murphy and Foss posted 67 in A Division and the trio of Alfortish, Dryer and Owen posted 71 points, the only two scores below 100 in the entire regatta.
On the Open side, the Cougars posted 210 points for a 56-point win over Georgetown turning in two of the top-five scores of the regatta. Skippers Alex Gonzalez and Harrison Thomson, alongside crew members Brylie Schaubach and Andrea Melnik, finished off the weekend sweep for Charleston Sunday with 14 podium finishes across 34 rotations.
At home in Charleston, skippers Rowan Schanley and Isabella Shakespeare, with crew members Grace Beard and Ashley Alfortish, finished third at the CofC Fall Women's Championship with Shakespeare and Alfortish claiming the best score in the regatta with 66 points in B Division.
Charleston placed eighth in the ACC Open Qualifier with 245 points, besting Penn by a single point and earning a bid to the ACC Open Championship Oct. 21-22 in St. Mary's City, Md. Skippers Noah Zittrer and Emma Tallman led the Cougars in A Division with crew members Lucy Klempen and Aiden Iaconis posting 138 points. In B Division, Skipper Benjamin Dufour led the Cougars to 107 points with crew members Chloe Hudgins and Garrett Grenauer.
Charleston's Offshore team placed fourth in their division of the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta from the Larchmont Yacht Club in New York. The Cougars posted 14 points to finish fourth in their division finishing no lower than fourth in any of their rotations.
