CHARLESTON, S.C. --- College of Charleston sailing hosts the 2023 ICSA Match Race National Championship this weekend and the offshore team competes for the Kennedy Cup in Annapolis at the Naval Academy.
Charleston qualified for the ICSA Match Race National Championship with their victory at the SAISA Match Race regatta in late September, also on home waters. Skipper Axel Stordahl led the Cougars past both Jacksonville and Miami to earn the bid alongside crew members Lawson Levine, Lucy Klempen and Garrett Grenauer.
Last season saw the Cougars place second in the Match Race Nationals regatta out in San Diego staging a late comeback after a 4-5 start to the weekend. Wins over Stanford and Brown led the Cougars to the finals before falling just short to Yale.
Charleston's offshore team heads to Annapolis and the Naval Academy for the Kennedy Cup to close their fall season. Last season saw the Cougars place seventh in the regatta with a pair of top-five finishes including a fourth place finish in race one.
