JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Charleston beach volleyball opened their 2023 season 1-2 Friday at the Jacksonville Tournament downing Palm Beach Atlantic 4-1 before falling to No. 8 Georgia State 3-2 and the host Jacksonville 4-1.

How It Happened
- Charleston opened the day taking down Palm Beach Atlantic 4-1 thanks to wins on the first four courts, three of the wins coming in straight sets
- The Cougars pushed No. 8 Georgia State giving the Panthers a battle before falling 3-2. Charleston picked up wins on the first and fourth courts via three sets as Kyra Thompson/Gabi Bailey and Ella Reames/Tynley Smeltzer took down their counterparts.
- The host Jacksonville was able to four of the five courts with Charleston's Emma Falk and Kora Hansen taking court three to finish the day 2-1 in their matches.
Notes
- Freshman Kora Hansen started her collegiate career with a win teaming up with Emma Falk for a straight-set 21-16, 21-16 win on court three over Palm Beach Atlantic
- The tandem finished the day 2-1 taking down their Jacksonville counterparts in the third match of the day
- Charleston's first court of Kyra Thompson and Gabi Bailey went 2-0 in the first two matches over Palm Beach Atlantic and Georgia State
