ORLANDO, Fla. - The College of Charleston women's golf team tied the school low tournament record on Tuesday during the final round of the UCF Challenge with a 845 team total. The round tied the Cougar's mark of 845 set last season at the same tournament. The Cougars beat three top 25 teams in the 18-team field including No. 6 Texas A&M.
Four of the five Charleston golfers in the lineup scored under par with Emma Schimpf leading the way at 11-under for a 205 tournament in T-6. Schimpf also tied a school record low tournament with a 205.
"It was a grind today. We did not play our best, but we found a way to finish sixth," said head coach Jamie Futrell. "It was a great start to the spring. Beating the No. 6 team in the country and knocking off a couple other top 25's makes for a good week. Emma had another great tournament. It seems like I say that every week. I was also proud of Emily [Dunlap] today. She was four over early and fought back to an even par round that helped solidify our good finish."
Dunlap bounced back to finish T-37 with four birdies on the back nine.
Charleston will be back in action February 26-27 at the Westbrook Invitational in Arizona hosted by Wisconsin.
