MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Kaitlynn Bailey established a new school record in the 100, and Emily Kreek turned in two outstanding performances in her first career outdoor meet to lead the College of Charleston track and field team at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge on Friday.
Bailey posted a time of 12.19 in the 100 to break the previous mark of 12.29 held by Kennay Agnew since 2017. Bailey's mark moved her up two spots in the record book and was the third-fastest qualifying time for Saturday's final.
Kreek advanced to the finals in the 100 hurdles and took over the No. 8 spot in Cougar history with a time of 15.46. The freshman began the day by leading a trio of Charleston athletes to advance to the finals in the long jump.
Kreek finished with a top jump of 5.14m (16'10 ½") to take third overall. She was followed in fourth by Abby Fush (5.06m, 16'7 ¼") and Catie O'Neill in eighth (4.81m, 15'9 ½").
The Cougar 4x800 relay team of Andie Harding, Grace McGrew, Meike Kalus and Rhian Purves had a time of 9:29.78 to set a school outdoor record that had stood since 2011 and take first place on Friday.
The two-day meet concludes tomorrow with action on the track in the 100 and 100 hurdle finals as well as the 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000, 400 hurdles and 4x400 relay. Cougar athletes will also compete in the pole vault, high jump and shot put.
