Bailey, Brown, Purves Win Event Titles at Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – College of Charleston athletes claimed three event wins on the second day of the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge on Saturday.
Kaitlynn Bailey ran a 58.86 to take first in the 400, Rhian Purves crossed first in the 800 with a mark of 2:15.07 and Sophia Brown established a PR of 10:35.02 in winning the 3000.
Bailey also took third in the finals of the 100 with a time of 12.57. Purves was one of four Cougars in the top eight in the 800, followed by Meike Kalus (third, 2:20.33), Emily Dorony (fourth, 2:21.54) and Andie Harding (eighth, 2:23.44).
Dorony also had a PR of 4:43.74 and was third in the 1500, just missing a spot in the Charleston record book. Shannon Smith (4:49.43) was fifth in the 1500.
Allie Pujol joined Brown with a PR in the 3000, running the distance in 11:31.50 to take fourth, and Reagan Wells was sixth in 11:41.97.
The Cougars finished second of 26 schools in the team standings.
The Cougars are back in action on Friday when they compete in the Buccaneer Invitational at Charleston Southern.
