CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston sailing competed in four events over the weekend placing fourth in the Port of LA Harbor Cup offshore, fifth at the Bob Bavier Open, sixth at the Graham Hall Open and ninth at the St. Mary's Women's Race.
Axel Stordahl, Brandon Geller and Noah Zittrer skippered the Cougars to five wins at the Graham Hall Open as Lucy Klempen, Noelle Owen, Aiden Iaconis, Anna Sherry and Garrett Grenauer each crewed at least one race. Charleston picked up wins over Boston, Cornell, Old Dominion, Roger Williams and Tufts
Meanwhile at the St. Mary's Women's Race, the Cougars were led by skippers Emma Tallman, Emily Alfortish and Freddrikke Foss to a trio of wins. Paige Lubrano, Roxanne Snyder, Rowan Schanley and Kalea Woddard each crewed at least one race. Due to weather conditions no racing took place on Sunday so Saturday's round one results proved final.
Out on the west coast at the Port of LA Harbor Cup, Charleston's offshore team placed fourth with 38 points over eight races. Despite an on-course side to start the weekend Charleston rebounded in a big way placing among the top-5 in six of their final seven races to climb the leaderboard and place fourth.
Charleston placed fifth at the Bob Bavier Team Race on home waters collecting nine wins from skippers Jack Howard, Lawson Levine, Alex Gonzalez, Max Anker, Charlie McKenzie and Benjamin Dufour. Charleston swept Navy and USF across the two rounds and gathered wins over Florida State, Coast Guard, Stanford, Vermont and Tulane. Brylie Schaubach, Aiden Miller, Chloe Hudgins, Nina Lubchenco, Kaili Yap and Ryan Hexter crewed in helping the Cougars collect nine wins over the two days.
