TOWSON, MD. - The College of Charleston softball team dropped 3-2 and 6-3 decisions to Towson, giving the Cougars their first CAA series loss of the season.
CofC's RBI leader
Malaka Belser doubled in the first inning to put the Cougars on the board first. Towson struck back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, proving to be the difference.
The Cougars tried to rally late in the sixth inning when
Mary-Kathryn Scott drove in one run and moved the tying run to second, but both runners were left stranded.
Kelli Anne Carter hit her second home run of the season in the third inning of game two to make it a one-run game.
Belser hit her second double of the afternoon to tie the game in the fourth inning. CofC then took the lead when Scott singled with two runners on and a Tiger error allowed
Mia Dittoe to score.
Payton Lemire finished the game with a season-best seven strikeouts, but the Tigers responded with a four-run rally in the fifth to clinch the series win.
