Charleston, S.C. – College of Charleston plays its first CAA road series of the season this weekend at Towson. The Cougars and Tigers play a doubleheader Saturday at noon and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
Charleston opened conference play by taking two of three from Delaware last weekend at Patriots Point. Caroline Conner earned both wins in the circle, allowing only three hits and two earned runs while striking out a season-high seven in the second game of the series.
The Cougar bats also produced five home runs against the Blue Hens, including two by Karlee Hughes in a 4-2 win on Saturday. Malaka Belser hit a three-run shot and drove in five in a 9-0 victory on Sunday.
Towson is 9-9 but lost all three games at UNCW to begin its CAA slate. This is the Tigers' third trip to South Carolina, having played in tournaments at Coastal Carolina, Furman and Charleston Southern.
The Cougars hold an 18-11 lead in the all-time series including 13-2 in Charleston. A year ago, the Cougars needed a season-ending sweep of Towson to qualify for the CAA playoffs and did so by scores of 2-0, 7-1 and 1-0.
