Columbia, S.C. – Luzy Lieger and Tonet Tallie rewrote the pole vault record book at the Weems Baskin Relays, and Rhian Purves had two outstanding runs in the 1500 to pace the College of Charleston track and field team over the weekend.
Lieger broke her own school record by clearing 4.15m (13'7 1/4") and took third place in the invite portion of the pole vault. Lieger eclipsed her previous best of 4.00m (13'1 ½") which she achieved at the CAA Championships in 2021.
Tallie had a PR of 3.95m (12'11 ½") and moved into sole possession of second place in the Cougar record book, breaking a tie with Chloe Christian.
Purves ran at both the Raleigh Relays on Friday and Weems Baskin on Saturday. At Raleigh she ran the 1500 in 4:32.75 to set a PR and win her section in a highly competitive field. Purves followed that up by winning the invite section at Weems Baskin in 4:36.54.
Cayden Crismon and Sophia Brown entered the record book in the 3000. Crismon moved into No. 8 spot in school history with a time of 10:20.62, and Brown is now 10th after crossing in 10:21.74. The duo finished fifth and sixth, respectively, at the meet.
Kaitlynn Bailey ran a 12.19 in the 100 and matched the school record she set at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge two weeks ago. She also topped the Cougars in the 200 with a time of 25.36. just .08 shy of her PR.
Andie Harding and Meike Kalus finished in the top six in the open 800. Harding ran a 2:20.61 to come within 1.13 seconds of a spot in the top 10 in school history, and Kalus' mark of 2:21.24 placed her sixth. Kylie Dougherty took first place in the open high jump with a mark of 1.52m (4'11 ¾").
The Cougars are off next week before competing at the Duke Invitational April 6-8.
