
Cougars Claim Carolina Cup

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston sailing claimed another victory over the weekend, this one coming in the Carolina Cup while placing fifth in the Jen Harris Team Race, fifth in the Admiral Moore and eighth in the Aaron Szambecki race.
Charleston won the Carolina Cup in Columbia posting 32 points across 14 races and finishing no lower than fourth in a single rotation. The Cougars got off to a hot start posting 14 points in Division A then followed with 18 in Division B for the seven-point win over South Carolina.
Elliot Raison, Blanche Merveilleux, Katie Hanley and Paige Lubranon led the Cougars in Columbia posting top-three finishes in 13 of the 14 rotations.
At the Jen Harris Team Race hosted by Navy, the Cougars placed fifth overall collecting wins over Cornell, Georgetown and George Washington. Charleston went 3-4 overall but missed out on the Final Four race off due to weather conditions Saturday that halted action in the afternoon.
Meanwhile at the Admiral Moore, Charleston took home another fifth-place finish going 8-6 across the two days with wins over Dartmouth, Navy, Hobart & William, Cornell, Miami, SUNY Maritime and the US Merchant Marines. Sunday saw a Top-6, Bottom-4 round with the Cougar competing in the Top-6, but falling short with a 1-5 mark.
In the Aaron Szambecki Charleston posted a 6-6 mark and finished eighth overall as all sailing was completed on Saturday. The Cougars picked up wins over USF, Fordham and St. Mary's in the Round Robin then finished 3-0 in the Bottom-4 round with wins over George Washington, USF and the host Old Dominion.

Charleston heads to the northeast for a pair of events next weekend with a team competing at the Marchiando Open hosted by MIT and the Delenbaugh Women's Race hosted by Brown.
