
Charleston Heads to UNCW for Four Matches

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston beach volleyball hits the road for the UNCW Invitational Saturday and Sunday with matches against the host Seahawks and Jacksonville.
The Cougars get the weekend started with UNCW Saturday morning at 9a.m. and finish their day with Jacksonville at 11a.m. Sunday sees the same two foes but begins with the Dolphins at 9a.m. and ends with their fourth match against UNCW over the last two weekends at 12:30p.m.
Charleston is coming off a 3-1 weekend at the 2023 Beach Blast where they rebounded from a 4-1 setback in the opener to down Erskine twice and avenge their loss with a 4-1 takedown of UNCW.
Sofie Vogel and Tynley Smeltzer paced the Cougars with a 4-0 weekend at the fourth court including a pair of sweeps Saturday. Kyra Thompson and Gabi Bailey (1's), Ella Reames and Maria Zweig (2's) and Emma Falk and Kora Hansen (3's) each went 3-1 at the top three flights while Alli Grant Avery and Mikaela Dougherty picked up a pair of wins on five.
UNCW went 3-1 at the Beach Blast as well sweeping Erskine and splitting with the Cougars. The Seahawks sit 9-6 on the season winning eight of their last 10. Jacksonville enters the weekend 8-13 and have dropped three-straight.
