
Charleston Repeats at Mendelblatt, Women Place Fourth at Phebe Cockran

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston sailing won the Mendelblatt Team Race for the second-straight season while the women finished fourth in the Phebe Cockran Women's Open.
Charleston went 13-1 overall in the Mendelblatt Race posting a 9-0 record in Round 1 with a duo of 1-2-3 wins over Embry-Riddle and Rollins and quartet of 1-2-4 wins over Eckerd, Florida State, Miami and South Florida. Charleston's 13-1 record was two clear of Miami (11-3) and four clear of South Florida (9-4) in the win. The Cougars were also one of just three teams to post winning records over the weekend in St. Petersburg.
The Cougars were led by a rotation of Axel Stordahl, Jack Howard and Brandon Geller at skipper while Noelle Owen, Lucy Klempen, Anna Sherry, Aiden Iaconis and Garrett Grenauer each crewed at least one race.
In the Phebe Cockran Women's Race the Cougars posted a 6-9 record over the two-day event with wins over the US Coast Guard and Jacksonville in Round 1, Jacksonville and South Florida in Round 2 then defeated Jacksonville and South Florida in the final round. The Cougars completed the weekend 3-0 versus the Dolphins and 2-1 versus the Bulls.
Charleston was led by a rotation of skippers in Grace Squires, Emma Tallman, Emily Alfortish and Fredrikke Foss while Kalea Woodard, Roxanne Snyder, Rowan Schanley and Chloe Hudgins each crewed at least one race.
