CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston softball team took the first game of the Lowcountry rivalry 4-3, before dropping the second game to Charleston Southern 2-1.

Freshman duo Karlee Hughes and Mary-Kathryn Scott each drove in a run in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Charleston Southern brought it back within one in the bottom of the fifth, but Roman delivered again with her second double of the day to drive home the insurance run. The junior finished the game with an impressive 3-3 day at the plate behind two doubles, two RBI and a home run.
The Cougars were unable to get a hit until the fifth inning of game two when Sierra Paradis recorded the first of her career, driving in the first run for the Cougars. Malaka Belser recorded the only other hit in the seventh frame, but CofC was unable to convert the tying run.
After giving up two runs in the first inning, Caroline Conner went on to shut down the Buccaneer offense, striking out five and only allowing two hits.
